IGT have done a tremendous job of designing the symbols in Transformers, translating the metallic robots across the reels brilliantly, with some very large winning combinations achievable.

Transformers is yet another licensed slot from IGT, just like the Star Trek slot machine, and like the movie it is quite sensational. The overall design and sounds are fantastic which will make it authentic for fans of the television show and movie, but it’s the FreeFall Symbols, Mystery Feature, and free spins mode where the biggest wins are achieved – especially Megatron who brings 5 free spins with an 8-10x multiplier that never fails to deliver mega wins!

Comparing the Battle for Cybertron with the original IGT Transformers slot is like comparing chalk and cheese. The original was cartoon-based, it does have many features, though this is fundamentally a bright and entertaining game. The Battle for Cybertron is also very entertaining, though in a dark and brooding way. The animations and graphics are amazing, and there are 5 in reel special features in addition to a featured bonus round to keep you involved. This slot uses the freefall symbols idea which IGT first used on Da Vinci Diamonds. Winning combinations disappear (in this slot the transform) and new symbols fall into their place. This can create a cascade of wins sometimes.
The step up with graphics compared to the original starts when the slot initiates. The reels and setup gets created piece by piece. In the background is Cybertron, with amazing graphics, the reels are translucent over the top and feature the Transformers and their enemies the Decepticons. When you hit a win there is a heavy guitar sounds, along with electronic beeps and the metallic sounds of the transformers changing shape.
Graphics really come into their own during the randomly triggered in-reel features. Here a character appears, transforms and sets fire to the reels in one way or another. This is as good as any animated film, really setting the bar for other slot manufacturers to follow. The main feature is a free spins round, in which you’ll have the chance to choose a high number of spins with a lower multiplier, or a low number of spins with a high multiplier.
Of the regular symbols, the transformers logo is the best paying. You will get 4000 coins for 5 of these on a winning line, or 500 coins for 4. Next come the transformers, with the red one worth 800 coins for 5, grey also 800, the yellow and purple are worth 300 coins for 5. Masks make up the rest of the smaller wins. There is a wild symbol, which substitutes for everything except the bonus symbol, which you’ll need 3 of to get to the feature round.
There are 5 in-reel features in total. These are all similar, with different specific symbols destroyed by different characters. They appear at random, the first you’ll know about it is some lightning above the reels, followed by a fireball into the middle of them. Here is what happens:
Optimus Prime: He destroys the Decepticon symbols, the grey and purple characters, and the mask with the pointed head. A ring of fire appears around the reels, then these symbols burn, disappear and new symbols fall into their place.

Megatron: Same idea with the fire, except this time the Autobot symbols (red, yellow and flatter mask) are destroyed.
Grimlock: Really good animations see this character transform into a dinosaur, random symbols are burned away.
Shockwave: Another random bunch of symbols from this flying transformer.
Ratchet: This character only appears when there are two bonus symbols on the screen already, he will bring the 3rd, giving you a free spins round.

A very impressive slot, and a huge contrast to the last IGT Transformers slot. This game is dark, brooding and packed full of animations and extra features to keep you entertained. My only (small) gripe is that the freefalling symbols can be a little slow.
